Open access publishing is not without costs. Progress in Earth and Planetary Science therefore levies an article-processing charge of £1240.00/$1690.00/€1390.00 for each article accepted for publication. We routinely waive charges for authors from low-income countries. For other countries, article-processing charge waivers or discounts are granted on a case-by-case basis to authors with insufficient funds. Authors can request a waiver or discount during the submission process. For further details, see our article-processing charge page.
Some or all of the publication cost may be covered if the corresponding author's institution participates in our open access membership program (more details available on the membership page).
For officially invited articles the APC is fully covered by the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU). Support will also be available from JpGU for authors of review articles and papers with full data attached, who will be able to publish their articles at a discounted APC of £992.00/ $1352/00/ €1112.00.
Corresponding authors who are JpGU members will be able to publish their articles at a discounted APC of £992.00/ $1352/00/ €1112.00. Please note that JpGU membership discount is limited to members who have fully paid their JpGU annual fee for both the year in which they submit their paper and also for the preceding year. New JpGU members are not eligible for this discount in their first year of membership. Members who have a JpGU ID registered as an AGU, EGU or AOGS member, and members who have a temporary JpGU ID to attend JpGU Meetings are also not eligible.
To receive any discount or waiver from JpGU, authors need to contact the PEPS Office before submitting their manuscripts (more details available on the How to submit a paper, APC and Templates page).
If the corresponding author is based in any country where tax is imposed on goods and services (e.g. Value-Added Tax in European Union countries or Consumption Tax in Japan) then this tax must be added to the APC at the rate applicable in that country.
SpringerOpen provides a free open access funding support service to help authors discover and apply for APC funding. Visit our OA funding and policy support page to view our list of research funders and institutions that provide funding for APCs, and to learn more about our email support service.
