Scheme of microbial cells purification for NanoSIMS analyses. Density-separated samples were applied to cell sorter after staining with SYBR-I (green). Then, the microbial cells (green) were specifically sorted onto polycarbonate membrane. The speed of sorting ranges few to hundreds of cells per second depending on the cell abundance in the original samples.
