Fig. 3

Depth profiles of salinity, temperature, and hydrogen (δD), oxygen (δ18O) and neodymium (εNd) isotope compositions for the Okinawa Trough (upper panels) and Pacific (lower panels) sides of the southern Ryukyu Island Arc. The salinity and temperature profiles are based on the data collected from 1 January 1990 to 31 December 2019 (Japan Oceanographic Data Center 2021). Wine-colored symbols in the salinity profile of the Okinawa Trough side indicate salinity measured in the South China Sea water (Japan Oceanographic Data Center 2021). Solid lines in the δD and δ18O profiles indicate mean δD and δ18O values in individual water masses. Dotted lines indicate mean ± 2σ ranges. Horizontal bars in the Nd isotope profiles represent analytical errors (2SD). Okinawa Trough side (upper panels): KSW, Kuroshio Surface Water; KTW, Kuroshio Tropical Water; WNPCW, Western North Pacific Central Water; KIW, Kuroshio Intermediate Water; BW, Bottom water. Pacific side (lower panels): SW, surface water; NPTW, North Pacific Tropical Water; WNPCW, Western North Pacific Central Water; NPIW, North Pacific Intermediate Water; PDW, Pacific Deep Water
