An experimental setup for cliff landslides. a An acrylic box with slots “a”–“d” with a thickness of 1.5 cm for the gates. A laser displacement sensor is positioned above the centerline of the cliff at a distance of \(\sim 1.5\) cm from the cliff face. b Locations of the pressure sensor (measures the \(\sigma\)) and pore water pressure sensor (measures the u) pairs. 3–4 pairs (a total of 6–8) of these sensors are used. The sensors at the bottom (side wall) measures the pressure in the z (y) direction
