Relationship between elastic thickness and mechanical thickness. The calculations were made using uniform thermal gradients similar to Solomon and Head (1990). The results for dry mantle rheology agree nearly with their data, but wet rheology gives a markedly thinner elastic and mechanical thicknesses than those for dry rheology at a given thermal gradient. Solid and dashed lines are results using flexural curvature of 10−7 and 10−6 m−1, respectively
