Estimation of fluid volume that reacted with fault rock containing pseudotachylyte. Fault displacement of pseudotachylyte was estimated from a plot of fault thickness vs. displacement (Di Toro and Pennacchioni 2005). Fault length was estimated from fault displacement by the plot of fault displacement and length (Kim and Sanderson 2005). The fault area was assumed to be the square of the fault length, and the volume was calculated by multiplying the fault area by the thickness. Finally, the fluid volume was calculated from the calculated volume using the R value (1000 for simplicity) and the density of the fault rock
