Analysis of the order of magnitude in a δ18O and b SST response modulation relative to orbital forcing (standardized response sensitivity Rs, see text) as a function of the LT-MCS. The balance line (0%) indicates that the variance of response matches the variance in forcing, suggesting a self-sustained climate system, which is only paced by orbital cycles. Values much larger than zero would indicate a nonlinear reinforcement of the signal response. Negative Rs shows a response variance lower than orbital forcing, suggesting a damping mechanism for the climate system
