The deeper view into Venus’ clouds afforded by near-infrared windows (this example from the Akatsuki 2-micron camera) shows structures on a range of length scales—if lightning is associated with cloud convection as on Earth, it might be expected that lightning will be similarly patchy (see also Fig. 4)
