The color and size of the symbols indicate the depth and magnitude of earthquakes, respectively. We can clearly see that most earthquakes occur on the subduction interface of the Pacific Plate. b Hypocenters of analyzed earthquakes and seismic stations used in this study. The red circles indicate hypocenters, and the blue squares indicate seismic stations, including stations of Hi-net (NIED), JMA, and Hokkaido University. The orange lines indicate the depth of the upper surface of the subducting Pacific Plate (Kita et al. 2010) at intervals of 20 km. Waveforms observed at the station N.TKIH are shown in Figs. 2 and 3 as examples
