Geologic map of the Willow Spring slab, southern Diablo Range. Location on Fig. 2. These (dark green, purple, and magenta colors) are among the highest grade coherent (non-mélange) rocks in the Franciscan Complex and are completely recrystallized and schistose. The Willow Springs slab is an example of OPS that is predominantly metabasite, with minor ultramafic schist and metachert, but no metaclastic rocks. These rocks tectonically overlie intact lower grade units including a blueschist facies unit with abundant metavolcanics (mov) and metachert (s) in addition to siliciclastic (mostly sandstone, ms2). The reconnaissance mapping done here did not completely define the extent of metachert and metaultramafic horizons in the high-grade rocks, but they certainly extend further along strike than shown.
