The Kuroshio surface and subsurface waters are characterized by higher δ 18Osw values, whereas the CDW is characterized by relatively low δ 18Osw values. Surface water properties in the northern part of the Okinawa Trough can be explained by isopycnal mixing with the CDW and Kuroshio surface water.
