Observed partial CO 2 pressure (pCO 2 ) and ocean pH at ocean surface. pCO 2 (μatm; blue) and surface ocean pH (green) at ocean are observed at Station ALOHA in subtropical North Pacific Ocean, in comparison with atmospheric CO 2 concentration observed at Mauna Loa (in parts per million by volume; red). Note that the increase in oceanic CO2 over the past 17 years is consistent with the atmospheric increase, within the statistical limits of the measurements (Doney et al. [2009]).
