Fees and funding
Open access publishing is not without costs. Progress in Earth and Planetary Science therefore levies an article-processing charge of £785/$1230/€1000 for each article accepted for publication. We routinely waive charges for authors from low-income countries. For other countries, article-processing charge waivers or discounts are granted on a case-by-case basis to authors with insufficient funds. Authors can request a waiver or discount during the submission process. For further details, see our article-processing charge page.
Support will be available from the Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) and corresponding authors who are JpGU members will be able to publish their articles at a discounted article-processing charge of €200, with the remaining charge covered by the JpGU. For invited articles based on convener-recommended presentations at the JpGU Annual Meeting, and also for review articles and data papers, the article-processing charge is fully covered by the JpGU. To receive any discount or waiver from the JpGU, authors need to contact the PEPS Office before submitting their manuscripts.
If the corresponding author is resident in any country where tax is imposed on goods and services (e.g. Value-Added Tax in European Union countries or Consumption Tax in Japan) then this tax must be added to the article-processing charge at the rate applicable in that country.
For non-members of the Society, some or all of the publication cost may be covered if the corresponding author's institution participates in our open access membership program (more details available on the membership page).
Springer Open provides a free open access funding support service to help authors discover and apply for article processing charge funding.
